I swear I was like half-dying when I took the cab from the airport to the hotel? It was like a really long 45min ride or something I was like "Are we there yet???" every 5 minutes or so.
Let me kickstart this with some mandatory hotel photos. I stayed at the Westgate Hotel in Taipei, which is really near Xi Men Ding (one of the famous night markets in Taiwan). I have no idea why I did not take mandatory photos of like the clouds from the airplane or whatever.
Random stuff at the hotel lobby.
Sculpture of.. something idek.
We reached Taiwan early in the morning at around 8am, but in Taiwan you can only check into hotels at 3pm, which is quite dumb). So we just left our baggages at the hotel and we headed out to the streets for breakfast. One thing you must know about Taiwan is that there are very little choices for breakfast/shopping. Most of the shops there only open after 4 or 5pm.
Needless to say.... we couldn't find anything much for breakfast that day. But hey we found some xiaolongbao (a type of dumping that has broth which will spurt out when you bite into it) at some roadside stall.
First bubble tea shop I saw in Taiwan
The awesome xiaolongbao.
Some random snapshots of the streets:
We went to the Taipei 101 building too, which is basically just like a high-end mall (like Singapore's Orchard) or something like that.
The very tall Taipei 101
And their dessert shops are like awesome omg (yes I know this shot is horrible wtf idk what is the main focus in this photo)
A close-up shot of those very gorgeous cupcakes
They have a freaking macaron shop so obviously I went crazy I love macarons. On a side note, did you know that macarons and macaroons are completely different things?
Freaking. Adorable. Whateven. So in case you can't read Chinese or whatever:
Panda - Caramel Milk Tea
Duck - idk the words are obstructed by an oblivious pink macaron
Bear - Hazelnut Chocolate
All the other god-damn-sounds-delicious flavours they have
I only bought a few though, I wanted to like save my money for clothes
Chocolate banana. Best macaron ever pls.
Jasmine Green Tea! It's nice but I'm not a big fan of this. I expected more like a.. matcha kinda taste but well it's jasmine green tea so it's pretty sweet.
I forgot what flavour was this.. But it was pretty god damn good. I think it's like Irish chocolate cream or something like that.
The following are just like photos of our lunch in the mall lol:
Smelly Tofu. You know what they say about how it's like durian. Smells bad but taste good? NO. To me durian smell AND taste good but wtf this shit is just bad all the way. I spat the whole thing out lol.
Some jappy meal my dad bought. And it taste really bad it's like not even mediocre.
So like after a very bad lunch experience (the food was really bad)... we went shopping. Guess what I came across?
Yah. Freaking hell. Should've eaten here from the start. And they sell their merchandise too it's so cute omgwtf.
LOOK AT THEIR VERY CUTE CAKES!!! Can you even bear to eat them. Kidding it's a rheotorical question the answer is no.
And wow it's a freaking Peter Rabbit shop. I LOVE PETER RABBIT I will marry ANYONE who gets me a Peter Rabbit soft toy I swear. But sadly they only sell like bedspreads there.
Yeah a huge Peter Rabbit statue. So.... obviously..
I had to take a mandatory shot with it.
I really like this a lot but it's very impractical to fly home an entire bedsheet set. (it's very bulky)
Night Market - Xi Men Ding:
Yup first bubble tea I had in Taiwan. Pretty similar to Singapore's imo
These street carts sell really good food too but it's really funny because they have to run when the police officers arrive. So it's like one moment there are many carts and the next moment all of them are running away.
The famous Ah Zhong Mian Xian (Vermicilli)
Looks and tastes delicious. Much better than what we have here omg
My parents and brother enjoying their vermicilli lol. I'm not a big fan of it but it's good enough to make me want a few bites.
Taiwanese people are mad fans of animals man and I really love it. Almost all the shops in the night markets have pets.
That poodle is really shy haha so endearing
Look at those puppy eyes omg
That's the shy puppy's sister in a bucket at the counter
And another sister
The shopkeeper and the black poodle
This black poodle is like new so those 3 red poodles are unrelated to this one. And yes that one shop has like 4 poodles.
This shop has like a huge golden retriever
No I totally didn't squat in front of their shop and sneaked a photo of the lazy retriever
Random snap shots of cats on the streets
"I refuse to look at the camera."
"I'm fat and I know it."
The signboard reads 'Peanut rolled with ice cream'. They have this wrap thing but I only bought the ice cream. It's just yam ice cream and it's really bland but I guess they didn't add sugar and it's au natural and stuff?
This was another dessert I tried there. It's milk ice shavings with chocolate syrup underneath. Also known as snow ice in Singapore, but in Taiwan it's ridiculously cheap and the portion is huge.
Who could resist that oh god. But I realized the ice cream in Taiwan are more of a sorbet, there's not enough cream to make it really taste like ice cream. Most of the time they taste like iced chocolate or iced vanilla.
Took the Taiwan MRT for the first time today to explore another night market.
The scenery from the train was awesome lol most of our trains here in Singapore are like underground or something. Much lame. But well it is to save space since we have limited land and shit here.
Mandatory photo with a very dull-looking dog lol but it's soft so whatever
My parents wanted one too. Much lame.
YAY Taiwan MRT. Looks pretty much the same as Singapore's one actually.
Train map.
My dad trying to step swag. Much wow. Very sunglasses. So gangstah.
Bought like over 20k (in TWD of course) worth of clothes in this shop. I bought like a shirt each for the guys in my CCA lulz.
A pug butthole heheheheheehe
A much cuter photo to neutralize the buttholeness. :D
This is damn good we bought like the honey lemon with aiyu jelly and it's super refreshing (which is awesome cause the weather there is horrid)
Taiwan sausage. Quite mediocre though I feel like the one sold at ximending night market is like much better. Best sausages I've eaten at Taiwan. I had a grand sausage fest there. (;
Ya this is the Taiwan sausage from ximending ahaha it's the best sausage.
Le dad trying to decide what to buy but I think he bought everything.
So like this is one of their delicacies too. They crack quail eggs into the dents of the metal tray and cook them. We can like pick the type of sauce we want on our eggs lol
The plain was pretty good but...
The sauce is damn good I swear, it brings out the taste of the eggs.
Fried squid. They have a variety of flavours but the sea salt was the best. And you can like ask for salad sauce at the side and the combination is just mind-blowing. You get a mouthgasm at just 450TWD.
Fresh orange juice! Didn't try this but the machine to squeeze the orange juice out was like really cool.
Oh and the claw machine in Taiwan.... You'll definitely get something. Like if you try 10 times you'll most likely get 9 out of 10 HAHAHAH. So of course I tried out every single claw machine there is (kid at heart).
QT MINIONS. And evil afro purple ones.
A few of the random shit I caught from the claw machines. And the cookie monster is like a finger puppet.
,,
A street shot of the night market. I'm not the most talented of photographers I know lolol.
It's a motherfuggin' lanky schnauzer.
IDEK wtf is this LOL a promeranian with dyed pink and blue fur.
That dog wants the V.
A street performer on stilts heheh couldn't get a clear shot obviously.
More canines on the streets making friends
A very cute poodle but.... you know. No poodle is as cute as my poodle pie Teddy.
Meet Teddy. The cutest poodle on earth she has many quirky behaviour which just amplifies her adorableness HAHAHAHAH
We also visited Sophisca, it's also found in Singapore Jurong East but they are way overpriced here.
Some strawberry chocolate 'condoms', Dog bone biscuit and mint chocolate 'plaster'.
This tastes meh.
I bought some of these for my friends and initially they were like judging me so bad.
This taste the best. But in general their things taste pretty average.. I expected them to be spectacular for that kind of price but I guess we are paying for the packaging.
Got some sophie sanitary pad for myself...
Only that.. it's marshmallow coated in sugar it's mad sweet I cant even.
Step swag. Decked in my new kicks (stupidly bought them in Singapore.. overpriced once again)
So we got this street artist to draw a caricature of us.
My parents HAHA my mum was not impressed and unconvinced. She's like "this doesn't even look like me where are the wrinkles."
And she complained that the drawing of me and hers look the same hmm.
Visited an aquarium themed cafe hidden amongst the upper levels of ximending's shophouses. It's really cool there are actual swing sets at the tables near the windows but sadly they were already occupied when we arrived.
Obligated family shot with me behind the camera.
Pudding milk tea! Way too sweet for my liking though, and that says a whole lot since I have a really sweet tooth.
My baked chicken pasta which tasted horrid. Their bread soup made up for it though, it's corn soup with baked pastry bread on top of the bowl but I didn't manage to take a photo since my camera died.
At the TaiPei international airport I bought this chocolate drink from Godiva and damn it was so good it's not like most of the tacky chocolate drinks that we mostly find here.
This.. place.. I just had to try to fit in the mickey hot air balloon lol
And that's it for the Taiwan trip!
Spent a total of 6 days and 5 nights there. I apologize for the very disorganized post but the trip was in September last year and I procrastinated so... I couldn't really remember the sequence of events sigh. I'm still pretty sore that I missed my first busking experience with the percussion group that September holiday hmm.
Till next time! This post took me really long I'm too lazy for this.
